NGS York
The York Branch, set up in 2006, was the first branch of The New Generation Society, and is now its largest. Based at The University of York, it is the largest Political Society on Campus, and holds regular meetings and speaker events. In the wider community, The York Branch has links with local schools, colleges, and universities in the area, and is in the process of setting up new branches there. As a society the York Branch try to create a friendly and open environment, where everyone in the community is able to express their views on the issues that the members choose to discuss. We are currently adapting our weekly “Thinking and Drinking” sessions to really encourage new thinking, and to record the new ideas of our members. We are absolutely delighted to hear from anyone in the York area or beyond who might like to find out more about NGS York, or even get involved. Don’t hesitate to email york@newgenerationsociety.com
Who we are:
![]() |
Tim Bidey, Chairman
Tim is Chairman of the NGS York. He is responsible for the running of the society in York and representing the NGS on Campus. He also sits on the National Executive. Tim is an English and Politics undergraduate. |
| Tilly Sheppard, Vice Chairman | |
| Ellie Kuper Thomas, Treasurer
Ellie is a Politics and Economics 2nd year student: luckily she hasn’t yet learnt enough to create a financial crisis with NGS funds, so she will be carefully controlling the budget. She enjoys getting passionate and gesticulating wildly during the course of political discussions. When not NGSing Ellie spends her time gazing out of windows, reading bad detective fiction and doing the guardian quick crosswords, all in aid of putting off her “proper” reading. |

| Sarah Ashley Cantello, Secretary | |
| Scott Bryan, Press Officer | |

David Levene, Multimedia Co-ordinator |

James Anderson, Thinking and Drinking Co-ordinator |
| Emily Barry, NGS NOW Co-ordinator
Emily is a politics and sociology undergraduate and is now in charge of the NOW programme. Emily is concerned with environmental issues; a keen traveler, trying to explore a different place every year; has a ridiculous obsession with cats! (Especially my cat Battlepuss!); and is happiest frequenting in some sort of trendy bar with a (reasonably sized) gin and tonic! |
