The National Executive is responsible for coordinating the work of the NGS on a national basis.

Who we are:

James Townsend, President

James is reading history at the Unversity of York. In January 2007 he founded the New Generation Society and as President he takes interest in all aspects of the society. James splits his spare time between driving a tractor in rural Gloucestershire, visiting peculiar parts of the globe and name-dropping.

Vasant Chari, Project & Communications Director

Vasant (Vas) is responsible for structuring new projects at the NGS, and for maintaining a communications strategy. A History and Politics undergraduate, he enjoys political discussion and J.S. Mill. He is a very keen traveller and enjoys playing tennis.

Vasant is also Secretary of the University of York NGS branch.

Lily Eastwood, Journal Editor

Lily runs the New Generation Society’s Journal as well as helping to develop external relations. Based in York as a PPE student and at home in London, she is a keen debater often competing in national Inter-Varsity Debates.

Combining her two greatest passions, Lily finds plenty of time to eat chocolate while contemplating political philosophy.

Amy Cumming, York Chairman

Amy is a politics undergraduate. When not absorbed in her university life Amy is happiest up a hill somewhere very far away, with a back-pack on.

Dan Sofaer, Personnel Manager

Dan is a second year philosophy, politics and economics student at the University of York.
Aside from NGS Dan does volunteering with Cancer Research UK and various Children’s charities, as well as reading post-renaissance political philosophy and getting good luck messages to his football team put on committee minutes.

Tom Harding, Development Officer

Tom is the new Development Officer. Tom looks after the progression of the society, helping it grow to new heights. He loves all sorts of politics and debating, history (he studies it after all!!) and baked beans – no meal is complete without them!! He also enjoys walking and swimming. At the moment Tom also serves on the committee of the NGS York as ‘Thinking and Drinking’ coordinator
